Saturday, December 26, 2009 - At 11:44 this morning, Garden City (STA. 65)was dispatched to assist Middletown (STA.50), Lima (STA.69), Lenni Heights (STA.54), Meida (STA.23), Brookhaven (STA.52) and South Media (STA.51) Fire Companies with a water rescue in Ridley Creek on the Rose Valley Road side. The rescue involved an SUV submerged in the swiftly moving water with two occupants, one which was still in the vehicle and one, the younger of the two, that was clinging onto a tree branch on the Rose Valley Road side. South Media and Garden City worked to pull the younger victim from the water, secure her in a stokes basket, and haul her up a steep, 200 ft. wooded embankment to a waiting ambulance. Rain combined with above freezing temperatures and runoff from melting snow all contributed to the massive volume of water flowing down the creek. Crews remained on location for about an hour.
