Saturday, October 18, 2008 - With cloudy skies, a temperature of 47 degrees, winds out of the north at 12 mph and the humidity hovering around 57% - Nether Providence Township hosted its 3rd annual 5K run for our first responders. Under the direction of race coordinator Christine Reuther the event kicked off at 9:00am in front of the Nether Providence Elementary School on Moore Rd with over 200 runners, walkers, kids and 9 teams participating in the event.
This year the officers/members and family members of the Garden City Fire Company # 1 stepped up to support the race with (18) - 5K runners, (16) - walkers, (6) kids and 2 teams.
The GCFC team 2 was able to bring home the 1st place trophy in the team event. Also receiving awards in the male runner’s category were Firefighters Tom Artingstal with a 2nd place finish and Scott Boroi with a 3rd place.
After the event a safety fair was set up on the grounds of the Elementary School with displays from the Garden City and South Media Fire Companies, The Nether Providence Police, The Nether Providence Bureau of Fire Prevention, The Girl Scouts of America and several other vendors. A great day was had by all.
A special Thanks goes out to all the supporter of the Race and the vendors. We would also like to thank the Media Fire Company EMS (Sta. 23), Lima Fire Company (Sta.69) and the Goodwill Fire Company (Sta.18) of New Castle Delaware for providing coverage during the Race.
