Our company along with our sister company South Media Fire Co. No.1 comprise the Nether Providence Township Fire Department of Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

2ND ALARM IN MARCUS HOOK

Around 1:30 AM Garden City (Sta. 65) was dispatched as part of the 2nd alarm assignment to assist Marcus-Hook Trainer (Sta. 68) on the working house fire. Chief Jamie McClure (68-9) was on location with a large 3 story twin with heavy fire on the first and second floor. Ladder 65 responded under the command of Assistant Chief Brent Hopkins (65-9B). Ladder 65 was ordered to take the alley way on the “C” side of the dwelling to set up for master stream operations. Engine 65-2 responded under the command of Lieutenant Rick Bailey (65-13A). Engine 65-2 laid 300 ft of 5in supply line to supply ladder 65. Due to wires and other hazards ladder 65 was unable to raise the main up, so numerous hand lines were put into service. Squrt 61 repositioned to the rear of the building also and ladder 65 supplied water to them while they put there squrt in-service. The fire was placed under control just before 3 AM. RESCUE ON THE PARKWAY

AT 15:18 hours Garden City (Sta.65), South Media (Sta.51) and Medic out of Parkside (Sta.45) were dispatched to the Chestnut Parkway and Blackeley Road for two vehicles involved in a MVA. Chief Joe Lombardo (65-9) was first unit on scene reporting three patatince confined in a gray vehicle. Engine 65-2 under the command of Captain Wayne Kuehler (65-12A) was the next unit on scene, the crew from Engine 65-2 started vehicle stabilization and patient care.   Next unit on location was Engine 65-1 under the command of Lieutenant Rickey Bailey, the crew from Engine 65-1 took care of fire control of the gray car and assisted in traffic control. Rescue 51 arrived under the command of Chief John Kokonos (51-9) crews from Rescue 51 and Engine 65-2 worked together to free three patients trapped.  Extrication took about 20 minutes, due to the number of patients additional BLS were requested, bring ambulances out of Media (Sta. 23) and Swarthmore (Sta. 14). Nether Providence Police assisted in all facets of the operations as well as starting the investigation. All crews worked well together and the operation was a success.

The officers of Garden City Fire Company are proud to announce the advancements through the ranks of the following members.  Junior Firefighter Liam Kinsolving moves up to the rank of Senior Firefighter as he has just turned 18. Liam joins one time Junior Firefighter  Pat O’Rourke Jr. who  since his 18 birthday has seen his share of fire this year. Cadet Bailey Bender  turned 16 and moves up the rank of Junior Firefighter to her join her fellow Junior Firefighter Kelly O’Rourke who moved up just a month prior to her.  We are also pleased to announce that we have added two new Cadets to our ranks, Cadet Dennis Crow and Cadet Jon Labuski join the fire on July 14, 2010.

 
CAR FIRE WELL OFF

At 19:55 hours Garden City (Sta. 65) and South Media (Sta. 51) were dispatched to the area of South Providence Road and Governors Drive for the vehicle fire. Engine 65-2 under the command of Captain Joe McCauley (65-12) was the first fire apparatus on scene. Captain McCauley split his crew one for fire attack, the other to open up the hood and take out the head lights.  65-2’s crew quickly pulled a line and went to work. Command 65 with Chief Joe Lombardo (65-9) was next unit on scene. Chief Lombardo direct Engine 65-1 under the command of LT Ricky Bailey(65-13A) to take care of a few small fires that were at the intersection of South Providence and Chester road, then to proceed in and assist with extinguishing the trees that were also on fire. Engine 51 and Squad 51 under the command of Chief John Kokonsos (51-9) were assigned traffic control along with Utility 65. Nether Providence PD assisted with traffic control and scene security. BUSY DAY IN NETHER

Due to the heavy rains in the area the members of the Garden City Fire Company had a very busy afternoon. The calls started at 14:14. In a little over an hour the company was dispatched to 4 assist the public calls and one automatic fire alarm call. . Utility 65, 65-8 and 65-8A were dispatched to handle the calls as a crew stood stand-by at the station. All crews cleared at 14:55. Then at 16:50 hrs, South Media (Sta. 51,) Garden City (Sta. 65,),  Parkside (Sta.45) for the RIT,  Media (Sta. 23) for the ambulances  and Medics 23 were dispatched to the 1000 block of Bent Rd. for the building fire. PD arrived on location with heavy smoke showing and the porch on fire.  Upon the arrival of Deputy Chief Ed Kline (51-9A) next due companies were requested bring Media (Sta. 23) and Rose Tree (Sta. 73). Crews from Squad 51 pulled a hand line and advanced it to the rear of the building. Crews from 65-5 split assisted with interior fire attack and accomplished a second floor searched and checked for extension.  Crew from Squirt 23 opened up the roof area above the fire. RIT 45 set-up ladder on the "A" & "C" sides of the building. Once the fire was placed under control, crews from 65 and 23 set-up PPV fans to clear all floors of smoke.  Crews cleared the call at 18:22hrs. At 18:38 Garden City was dispatched for another assist the public call due to the heavy rains from earlier.

 


 
WORKING FIRE IN BROOKHAVEN

Just after 4 PM Garden City (Sta. 65) was dispatched to assist Brookhaven (Sta. 52) on the 3400 Block of Nathan Drive for the house fire. Ladder 65 Responded under the command of Chief Joe Lombardo (65-9). Chief Rob Montella (52-9) was first to arrive and reported a 1 ½ story Single Family Dwelling with smoke showing. Quint 52 arrived and put two 1 ½ lines in service while tele-squrt 50 picked up the hydrant. Ladder 65 arrived and was ordered to open up the roof. The crew from 65-2 assisted interior crews with opening up and checking for extension. The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes. ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT

Just before 5PM Garden City (Sta. 65), South Media (Sta. 51), and ambulance and medic 23 were dispatched to Providence Rd and Furness Ln for the accident with injuries. Engine 65-2 responded under the command of Assistant Chief Brent Hopkins (65-9B). Ambulance and medic 23 were first to arrive and reported a two vehicle accident with one trapped. 65-2 arrived and stabilized the vehicle while Squad 51 deployed the cutters and spreaders. The crew from 65-2 and Squad 51 went to work to free the patient while another crew from 65-2 stood by for fire suppression if needed. The patient was freed within 10 minutes and transported to the hospital. 65-2 cleared in approximately an hour.


 
STA. 65 GOES TO WORK IN FIRST DUE

Shortly after 6:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, Garden City (Sta. 65), South Media (Sta. 51) and Media (Sta. 23) were dispatched to the Saybrook Condos for the building. Chief Joe Lombardo (65-9) went on location with a two story middle of the row town house with light smoke showing from the second floor window. Shortly after, engine 65-1 went on location under the command of Deputy Chief Pat O'Rourke (65-9A). The crew from the engine forced entry to the front door and stretched the 1 1/2 attack line. Upon entry of the residence, the crew conducted a primary search of the first and second floors and found a smoke condition through out with no visible fire. When the crew made entry to the basement to secure the power, they encountered fire in the basement. Due to the lack of manpower on scene at the time, 65-9 requested the second alarm, bringing in Parkside (Sta.45), Brookhaven (Sta.52) and Green Ridge (Sta.63). The crew from engine 65-1 knocked the fire in the mean time. Crews remained on location for about 2 1/2 hours conducting overhaul, ventalation, and investgations. Strong work by all


 
   
   
2ND ALARM IN CHESTER CITY

Just after mid-night Garden City (Sta. 65) for the ladder, Brookhaven (Sta. 52) for the air bank, and Parkside (Sta. 45) for the RIT were dispatched to the 1000 BLK of W. 7th St for the 2nd alarm assignment on the building fire. Ladder 65 responded under the Command of Deputy Chief Pat O’Rourke (65-9A). Ladder 65 arrived on scene and staged at 7th ST and Lloyd ST. The crew from the ladder reported to the manpower pool and stood by. Engine 65-2 responded under the command of Chief Joe Lombardo (65-9). Chester 11 pulled everyone out of the building and went into a defensive attack. Crews then went to the roof to cut a hole to try and get the fire under control. The fire was placed under control within an hour. The 2nd alarm companies cleared just after 2 AM.


 
FIRST DUE KITCHEN FIRE

Just before 6 PM Garden City (Sta. 65), South Media (Sta. 51), and Media (Sta. 23) for the RIT and ambulance were dispatched to the 200 BLK of Elm Rd for the building fire reported to be in the kitchen. Ladder 65 responded under the Command of Deputy Chief Pat O’Rourke. Ladder 65 arrived on location with a one story rancher with smoke showing. The crew from the ladder pulled a 1 ½ attack line and stretched it into the front door. Crews found fire in the kitchen and extinguished all visible fire. Engine 65-2 stood by the hydrant. The fire was under control within 10 minutes. The crews from engines 65-1 and engine 51 assisted with overhaul and ventilation. Good work by all on scene.
